Program more than quadruples scholarships,
invites community support for continued growth
Rutherford Arts Alliance awarded 44 needs-based K–12 arts scholarships totaling over $24,000.00 across nine schools in Rutherford in 2026, up from 10 scholarships at three schools in 2025.
The program provides up to $600 per student annually for expenses such as musical instruments, music and vocal lessons, art supplies, and participation fees. Teachers initiate applications for eligible students, with payments made directly to vendors.
“Growth of over 340% from the first to second year shows how much this program is needed,” says Jeff Lysyczyn, executive director of Rutherford Arts Alliance. “For families unable to sustainably afford the costs of arts participation, these scholarships make all the difference. The partnership between the RAA, our funders, educators, administrators and guardians has been nothing short of inspirational.”
“We are so grateful for the Rutherford Arts Alliance and their partnership in our goal to ensure every student in Rutherford County has access to a strong arts education,” says Rutherford County Schools Fine Arts Coordinator Lindsay Halford. “These scholarships provide impactful opportunities for students to explore and deepen their skills in the arts. We are excited to see this program grow and make a difference for even more students!”
Support from the Christy-Houston Foundation, Inc. and private donors helped make the 2026 scholarships possible.
“As educators and guardians become more aware of these scholarships, we expect the number of applications to continue to increase year-over-year,” Lysyczyn adds. “We’ve already begun to raise funds for the 2027 season. I’d like to encourage members of the public to donate to the scholarship fund if they are able. Community contributions will help RAA continue the program and reach more students in the next scholarship season. We’re grateful for the support that made this year’s growth possible.”
