Arts Advocacy

Building a Stronger Creative Community in Rutherford County

The Rutherford Arts Alliance is proud to launch our new Arts Advocacy Interest Group, a space for anyone who believes in the power of the arts to strengthen, connect, and inspire our community.

You don’t need to be an artist to be an advocate.

We’re starting with a simple first step: learning together.

Summer 2025 Book Club: Making Change by Eric Booth

This summer, the Rutherford Arts Alliance is hosting a community-wide book club focused on Making Change by Eric Booth—a short, inspiring read about the role of teaching artists and how everyday people can become powerful advocates for the arts.

We have a full group of participants who will be reading the book together and attending two virtual discussion sessions throughout July and August.

Book Club Schedule:
📚 June: In-Person Kickoff & Book Pickup
💬 July: Zoom Discussion Session
🎯 August: Optional Planning Meeting for Next Steps

Zoom sessions will be recorded for flexibility.

Why Advocacy Matters

Advocacy isn’t just about passing laws—it’s about showing up, sharing stories, and making sure the arts have a visible, vital place in our communities.

Through this group, we hope to:

  • Learn how to speak confidently about why the arts matter

  • Support local artists, organizations, and initiatives

  • Build lasting relationships that strengthen our creative community

  • Create opportunities for collaborative advocacy projects in Rutherford County
