Rutherford County Theatre News, September 2023

Happy September Readers,

After a scorching August, let’s hope this month rolls in cooler breezes and even some falling leaves! The changing season carries exciting news along with it.  I am elated to announce the Rutherford Arts Alliance’s Third Annual Rutherford County Theatre Crawl, hosted at the beautiful Oaklands Mansion, and proudly sponsored by the Mills-Pate Arts Center! Be sure to mark your calendars for Saturday November 11th!  This will be a fun-filled, family-friendly night of performances from a handful of local performing arts troupes!  Stay up to date on this free county event through our Facebook Event page- “Third Annual Rutherford County Theatre Crawl.”

Now, let’s see what’s going on with our participating theatres in the upcoming months:]

After wrapping up auditions for “Into the Woods,” the Center for the Arts prepares for their upcoming production of the beloved comedy show, “The Play That Goes Wrong.”  Running September 15th through September 24th, this production explores a woefully misguided troupe of players at the Cornley University Society’s opening night performance of The Murder at Haversham Manor. An unconscious leading lady, a corpse who can’t play dead, a ruffled detective, and a word-mangling butler (among others) must battle against technical gaffes, forgotten lines, and sabotaging scenery in a quest to arrive all in one piece at the final curtain call. Grab your tickets on their website now: CFTA

Murfreesboro Little Theatre begins their exciting plans for the 2024 season, which looks to be full of amazing opportunities for performers in the local area. Up next in their current season of performances is their long-awaited Halloween production of, “The Crucible.” This classic spooky tale will be performed at the Oaklands Mansion on October 1st!  Presently, they are gearing up for their upcoming event, “Charity Chopped in The Boro,” on September 14th. This fun event will replicate a celebrity cook off that aims to benefit local charities in the area. Join them at Liberty Station for this and more by visiting their website for info: MLT

Ghost Light Studio gets back into their regular flow of things as the summer season comes to a close. Beginning the first Thursday of September, they will resume their weekly Student Improv Club, which remains available for sign-up throughout the year. This club offers a fun and relaxed environment for young students to learn improv skills and socialize with other kids in their area. Up next for GLS is their third annual and final performance of “Twisted Ranch.” This murder mystery dinner theatre experience has been hopping around local bar and grill venues for the past three years and finally makes its finale performance at the local Front Street Pub on November 18th. Spots are limited, so be sure to stay up to date on ticket sales through their website: GLS

Now, let’s take a look at this year's event sponsor:

The Mills-Pate Arts Center is a local Center for performing arts. Home to at least 5 local theatres, MPAC offers a personalized performance space for local artists. With both an outdoor tented venue and an indoor staging area, this venue is a perfect space to discover up-and-coming theatres and performing artists. Renovations continue with the building and surrounding property over the next year, but that does not stop them from hosting around 30 productions per season! So be sure to support your local center for the arts by seeing a show and checking out their list of events through their website: MPAC

Until next month Readers, this is Poem Bokoles with all the local theatre buzz you need to know.

“The novel is more of a whisper, whereas the stage is a shout.”
