Our February Happenings begins with a message from our Exec Director Jeff Lyscczyn:
“I think artists can go to a level of vision that can often save us from a situation which seems to have no solution whatsoever.”— Susan Griffin
Hello Friends,
To prepare for this month’s note, I spent some time reading quotes that express the importance of art in times of trouble. There are many that resonated. This one from Susan Griffin stood out in bold for me.
I’ve wondered if today’s artists would speak out like they did in the civil rights movement, the Vietnam era, and other times of trial in our nation. It appears it’s starting to happen.
In recent weeks I’ve seen photos, drawings, poems and even memes that caused me to think differently about the times we’re living in. Bruce Springsteen entered the conversation a few days ago with his new song, “Streets of Minneapolis.”
Do you think the vision of artists can save us?
