It’s my favorite time of year! The -ber months!!
I’m not sure why, but I am especially excited for fall this year—oh, actually I know exactly why. These pop-up thunderstorms and 100F+ heat indexes have made this summer miserable! I am ready to put it behind me! Bring on the pumpkins and flannel! And the books too! We’ve got some good stuff coming at you this month!
I can’t let this month go by without mentioning what a loss we had in the Tennessee literary community here at the end of August. We will always love you, Dolly.

Yes, MTSU is back in session for the fall semester, which means In Process is having their free and open-to-the-public series! First up is a staged reading of Mac Rogers’ pilot episode for the new audio drama Mesmer. More info here.
Friday, September 4th, at The Grand Exchange Bookstore (21 S Public Sq, Murfreesboro): Writers’ Circle
The Grand Exchange is doing something new and hosting a little get-together for authors in the area! It’s $5 to join, and details are still TBA. Keep an eye on their socials for more info!
Thursday, September 10th, 4:30-5:45 PM, at the Sam Ingram Building at MTSU: In Process Presents Yurina Yoshikawa
Come back to In Process to hear from the great fiction writer Yurina Yoshikawa. Can confirm she’s a great speaker; I heard her back at the MTSU Write conference a few years ago (and she even held my baby so I could work on an exercise)! More info here.
Thursday, September 10th, 7-9 PM, at The Walnut House (116 N Walnut St, Murfreesboro): The Bloom Stage Presents “Golden Hour”
The Bloom Stage brings a blend of storytelling, poetry, music, and art to the stage. The series celebrates the ability of art to honor both the diversity and commonality of human experience, and to satisfy a vital human need for connection. It seeks to present established and emerging storytellers, poets, performers and artists and to encourage unity among communities whose stories often go unheard. This quarter’s theme is “Golden Hour,” with live art, live music, live storytelling and poetry, visual art, and community with a mix of people you’ve heard of and maybe some you haven’t! Sunday, September 13th, 3-5 PM, at Dapper Owl Coffee (2412 E Main St, Murfreesboro): Writers’ Mingle with David Beers
A mingle for creative writers will be held Sunday, September 13, from 3 pm to 5 pm at the Dapper Owl coffee pub. Connect with other writers of all genres and experience levels in a relaxed setting—and even sit down and write for a bit, if you’re so inspired. Come and go anytime.
