RAA members and friends are invited to our October monthly mixer, hosted by Executive Director Jeff Lysyczyn. Join us Tuesday, October 21, at 5:30pm at the Dapper Owl Coffee Pub in Murfreesboro. Following the mixer hour, there will be a one-hour concert and pub sing from6:30-7:30 with traditional musicians Alex Sturbaum and Kelsey Wells. Learn more about Alex and Kelsey below.
RAA mixers are relaxed gatherings and the perfect way to meet new people, spark creative conversations, and sometimes enjoy informal Q&A with other local artists and advocates.
No membership required and no cost to attend, though we encourage you to purchase food or beverage (they have coffee, tea, ciders, and more!). Bring your creative friends along! The Dapper Owl is already a popular spot with our literary interest group, Poetry in the Boro, the Murfreesboro Silent Book Club, and other groups. Let’s mix, mingle, and celebrate our creative community together!
More about the venue and parking
The Dapper Owl coffee pub is located at 2412 East Main St. just past its intersection with Rutherford Blvd., on the east side of the MTSU campus. Overflow parking is on the Arnold Lane side of the building – pull in perpendicular to the building to allow more cars to fit (careful of the AC unit!) or park on the side of road down Arnold Lane (please don’t block any driveways).
About the musicians
Alex Sturbaum (they/them) is a traditional musician based in Olympia, WA. Alex is a singer, songwriter, dance musician, and multi-instrumentalist, and performs across the country at festivals, contra dance weekends, and more. A versatile and engaging performer steeped in folk music from both sides of the Atlantic, they draw influences from Celtic, American, English, Canadian, and maritime music to create something at once old and new. Alex's performances are always high energy and build an instant rapport with audiences.
Kelsey Wells is an old-time fiddler and banjo player born and raised in Murfreesboro. Well-known in the contra dance scene, Kelsey performs across the US with various bands, including the Engine Room (with Alex!), Ice Cream Truckers, and Turnip the Beet. Kelsey lives with a silly, fluffy dog named Isham (who is named after a fiddler, of course!).
See you there!
