A more literate and literary Rutherford County - what's your vision?

What would a more literate and literary Rutherford County look like to you?

The RAA’s literary arts interest group has now met twice (September 2020 and January 2021) to consider that question, and our group has identified three main goals:

  1. Establish ways to better share - among ourselves and with the greater community - our lit-related news and ideas. One way we plan to do that is on this blog; another is through the new Rutherford Lit Facebook group, where all are welcome. Please join us!

  2. Building on the success of the Southeastern Young Adult Book Festival (SE-YA) and many other local workshops and projects throughout the years, find more ways to encourage young people of all ages to engage in reading, writing, and spoken word.

  3. Work toward the long-term dream of a community bookstore with space for readers and writers, readings, writing workshops, and more.

There’s a lot of work and smaller projects implicit in these goals, but we’ve got a great foundation, with representatives of organizations such as Friends of Linebaugh Library, MTSU English, MTSU Write, Read To Succeed, SE-YA, and many avid readers and writers at our meetings. We are currently forming committees to pursue each of these main goals.

If you’re interested in joining a committee or want to be on our email list, contact interest group leader Kory Wells (korywells@gmail.com). We haven’t yet set a firm date for our next meeting, but we’re expect it to be in late March or early April 2021.
