Minutes of Our July 2019 Meeting

A meeting of the Rutherford Arts Alliance was held June 11, 2019, from 4:00 to 5:00 PM at the Murfreesboro Little Theatre. Over 35 people were in attendance.

The meeting was called to order by recently elected RAA chair Ginna Foster Cannon, PhD.

Ginna thanked Murfreesboro Little Theatre for hosting and reminded those in attendance that RAA continues to look for hosts/meeting locations into 2020; interested groups should contact the RAA.

Ginna thanked Kory Wells for her service as Secretary and Ginny Togyre for her leadership as Chair on the founding Board of Directors. The new board consists of:

  • Ginna Foster Cannon, PhD as Chair

  • Ginny Togyre as Past Chair

  • Dr. Elizabeth Bray as Vice Chair

  • Diane Stockard as Secretary

  • Susan Gulley continuing as Treasurer

  • Andrea Loughry continuing as At-large member

  • Lucy Langworthy continuing as At-large member

Charlie Parker, president of the board of directors of Murfreesboro Little Theatre, gave a brief talk on the theatre’s mission and history. The group was founded in 1962 and is the oldest continuing theatre in the area. A 501-c(3), it is funded through ticket sales and donors. In addition to busy seasons of MLT productions for adults and youth, the theatre also partners with groups offering poetry, storytelling, comedy and more.

Treasurer Susan Gulley reported that the organization has 35 paid memberships, and more people were joining at the meeting.

Ginna invited those present to make announcements. Individuals and organizations are encouraged to engage and share their arts news on the RAA “Creative Connector” Facebook group. A few highlights below are further mentioned on the Facebook group:

  • Excitement for new murals by Ryan Frizzell/Rhinovirus on Maple St. in Murfreesboro and Suzanne LeBeau of Smyrna Artist Cooperatives in Depot District.

  • Opportunity to participate in Fall Market & Craft Fair at Gathering at Milton.

  • Opportunity to display art in exhibit at Main Street’s fundraiser on 7/27 (this was originally discussed as a pop-up show).

Our next meeting will be hosted by MTSU School of Concrete and Construction Management at 4:00 PM on Tuesday, August 13.

The formal meeting adjourned about 5:00 PM.
