The Rutherford Arts Alliance is partnering with Mainstreet Murfreesboro and Oaklands Mansion to host a community collaborative mural painting project in celebration of America’s 250th birthday. People of all ages are invited to paint tiles which will be assembled into a mosaic mural. The completed mural will be unveiled on the July 3 Friday Night Live concert on the Murfreesboro Square, serving as the official kickoff to the City’s July 4th festivities.
This event is part of Oaklands Mansion’s “Free Day” on Sunday, May 17, from 10am to 4pm. The day will also include live music, a heritage baseball game, and more. Get the details here.
Other local organizations will offer additional painting locations throughout the county during the month of May.
Can you volunteer?

More about the project
The USA 250 Mural Project is a landmark public art initiative designed to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary by telling the unique story of Murfreesboro and Tennessee. Through a partnership with MuralMosaic, our community will create "The Patriot’s Flag"—a massive, permanent work of art composed of 650 individual hand-painted tiles. This project transitions the 250th anniversary from a passive observation into a tangible, inclusive legacy where every resident can "leave their mark" on history.
